During the construction of the Western Bypass in South Goa, locals had strongly opposed the project, demanding that it be built on stilts instead of filling up agricultural fields.
Currently, a bypass road connecting Bicholim to Mapusa is under construction in North Goa to ease traffic congestion. Interestingly, unlike in South Goa, there has been no local opposition to the road being built through fields.
The big question is – why?
