Sindhudurg gets a new bishop

Fr Agnelo Jacinto Pinheiro has become the diocese’s second bishop

Fr Agnelo Jacinto Pinheiro, who hails from Raia in South Goa, was recently ordained as the Bishop of Sindhudurg at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Sawantwadi. The ceremony saw the participation of several faithful from Goa and Sindhudurg.

The ordination was conferred by the Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao, marking a significant milestone in the history of the diocese. Bishop Pinheiro becomes the second bishop of the Diocese of Sindhudurg.

The papal bull was read in Latin by Fr Reagan Martins and presented in Konkani translation by Fr Felix Lobo, who also led the liturgical signing.

The Diocese of Sindhudurg was established on July 5, 2005, and its first bishop, Bishop Alwyn Barreto, also from Goa, served the diocese for nearly 19 years.
