Bank employees observe nationwide strike on September 11

Bank unions across India are demanding five-day banking and withdrawal of the PLI scheme

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), representing seven bank unions, has called for a one-day nationwide bank strike on September 11, 2026. The unions are demanding the immediate implementation of five-day banking and the withdrawal of the Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

The UFBU has warned of further industrial action if the demands are not addressed, including a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30, followed by a continuous indefinite strike from October 26 onwards.
