All Goa Khajekar Association calls for urgent government action

The khajekar association is protesting the denial of stalls at the upcoming Shirgao Lairai zatra

The All Goa Khajekar Association has staged a protest after the Devasthan Committee and the government denied stall permissions at the Shirgao Lairai Fair. The association warned that the decision could trigger a severe financial crisis for nearly 60 khajem vendors who depend on the annual event for their livelihood.

According to the association, the affected vendors collectively generate around Rs 2.5 crore in sales during the fair each year. With permissions withheld, vendors now face significant losses and uncertainty.

The association has called for urgent government intervention to resolve the issue and safeguard the interests of traditional khajem sellers.
